Accessibility statement

Paragon Media Canada is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or other assistive technology.

This page describes the standard we work to, the measures we take, the limitations we know about, and how to reach us if something on this site does not work for you.

1. The standard we work to

We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. As an Ontario business we are also subject to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and its Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation, which requires public websites and web content to conform to WCAG 2.0 Level AA. WCAG 2.1 includes everything in 2.0, so working to 2.1 is how we meet that obligation.

What we are not claiming. This is a statement of commitment and process, not a certification. This site has not been independently audited or certified against WCAG, and we do not claim full conformance. Accessibility is something we work at continuously, and parts of the site will fall short of the standard at any given time. Where they do, we want to know — see section 3.

2. Measures we take

These are the steps we take when we build and maintain this site. They are measures we apply, not evidence that every page passes every criterion.

Semantic structure and landmarks
Pages are built with real headings, lists and landmark regions — header, navigation, main and footer — so a screen reader can move through a page by structure instead of reading it top to bottom. Every page carries a skip link to the main content.
Labelled forms
Form fields have real, programmatically associated labels rather than placeholder text standing in for one, and errors are announced in text next to the field they belong to.
Keyboard operability
Interactive controls — links, buttons, menus and dialogs — are reachable and operable with a keyboard alone, and dialogs return focus to the control that opened them when they close.
Visible focus indicators
The focus ring is kept visible rather than removed for appearance, so a keyboard user can always see where they are on the page.
Colour contrast checked against AA thresholds
Text and interface colours are checked against the WCAG contrast ratios for their size. Where our brand accent did not clear the threshold behind white text, a darker shade of it is used for those controls instead of the brand colour.
Respect for reduced motion
Animations and background effects honour the operating system's “reduce motion” setting, which disables them rather than merely shortening them.
Text that resizes
Text can be enlarged to 200% without loss of content or function, and pinch-zoom is not disabled on mobile.
Meaningful alternatives
Images that carry information are given text alternatives, and images that are purely decorative are hidden from assistive technology so they are not read out as noise.

3. Known limitations

We would rather name these than let you discover them. The following parts of the site may not meet the standard we aim for:

  • Third-party content embedded in our pages — maps, booking widgets, review feeds, social embeds and similar — is built and controlled by those providers. We choose accessible options where a choice exists, but we cannot guarantee their content meets the same standard.
  • PDFs and other documents that we did not produce, including files supplied by a client or a third party, may not be tagged for screen readers. If you need the content of one of those documents, ask us and we will provide it in a format that works for you.
  • Older material published before our current standards may not have been revisited yet. We correct it as we find it, and sooner when someone tells us about it.
  • Sites we build for our clients live on their own domains and under their own control after launch. This statement covers paragonmediacanada.ca. If you have hit a barrier on a client's site, we still want to hear about it and will pass it on.

If you run into any of these, or anything else, tell us and we will fix it or get you the content another way.

4. Accessible formats and communication supports

Paragon Media Canada provides accessible formats and communication supports for the information we publish, on request, at no extra cost beyond what anyone else pays for the same material. That includes anything on this website, our proposals, our invoices and our client documents.

Tell us what works for you — large print, plain text, an accessible document, a read-aloud version, a phone call instead of email, or something else — and we will work with you to agree on a suitable format and provide it in a timely way.

To make a request, contact us by phone or email using the details in section 6.

5. Reporting a problem

If you hit a barrier on this website — a page you cannot navigate with a keyboard, text you cannot read, a form you cannot complete, or anything else — please tell us. It helps to include the page address, what you were trying to do, and the browser or assistive technology you were using, but none of that is required. Tell us in whatever way is easiest for you.

Our commitment. We respond to accessibility feedback within one business day. If a fix will take longer than that, our reply will tell you what we are doing about it and give you the content another way in the meantime. Feedback is accepted by phone, by email, and in person, and we will reply by whichever of those suits you.
